OBDSTAR will soon release a major software update for Locked MG1/MD1 ECU Read/Write & Unlock. The new function will be available for the following OBDSTAR devices:

Technical Guide: Yamaha Motorcycle CO Volume Adjustment via MOTOMASTER

Proper CO adjustment helps maintain engine performance and emission standards. Follow these steps to complete the adjustment using your OBDSTAR MOTOMASTER.


Tools Required:

Step-by-Step Procedure

1. Initial System Entry

Power on your device and tap [DEMO] (or enter via the live diagnostic menu).

Locate and select Yamaha from the list of manufacturers.

Select [Common Special Functions].

Select [Idle Speed Adjustment].

2. ECU Activation

Follow the on-screen prompts to turn the ignition switch OFF and then back ON.

To activate the ECU, select [Temporary Activation].

From the function list, tap [CO volume adjustment 3].

3. Adjusting the CO Values

Carefully read and follow the on-screen safety instructions.

Tap [Change Mode] to enable the adjustment interface.

Select the specific cylinder and adjust the CO value by [Step ON] or [Step down] the levels as required by the engine specifications.


4. Completion

Once the desired levels are set, tap [Back] to save the settings and exit the function.

The system will confirm that the Yamaha CO adjustment is concluded.

MB FBS3/FBS4 TCM OBD Virginization Solution

OBDSTAR is set to release a powerful new function that enables OBD virginization for Mercedes-Benz FBS3 and FBS4 transmission control modules (TCM). This upgrade will be supported by KeyMaster G3 and DC706, providing locksmiths and automotive technicians with a safer, faster, and non-destructive solution for replacing used Mercedes-Benz TCUs.


With this new feature, technicians can restore a used TCM to factory virgin status via OBD or Bench mode, eliminating the need for risky hardware modifications and greatly improving workshop efficiency.

Supported TCM Types

This solution supports the following Mercedes-Benz transmission control modules:

FBS3 TCM: VGS2 / GS3-NAG2

FBS4 TCM: VGS4-0-NAG2 (7-speed)

These modules can be virginized through OBD or Bench mode using OBDSTAR X300 Classic G3 or DC706.


Why Virginization Is Required

When replacing a used Mercedes-Benz TCM, the module's immobilizer data must be cleared first. This process, known as virginization, resets the module to its original factory state.


Traditionally, the module must then be installed and programmed through online programming or personalization using the original manufacturer’s tools, which can be both expensive and time-consuming.


Drawbacks of Traditional Open-Cover & Soldering Methods

Currently, most available solutions for FBS4 (VGS4-0-NAG2) TCM units require destructive operations, such as opening the module housing, cutting circuits, or soldering wires to read or write the data.


These traditional methods present several disadvantages:

Complex procedures requiring highly skilled technicians

High risk of module damage during cutting or soldering

Time-consuming operations that reduce workshop productivity

Irreversible damage may occur if any step is performed incorrectly, resulting in significant financial losses


Because of these risks, many technicians consider the process difficult and unsafe.


Advantages of the New OBD Virginization Solution

The upcoming OBDSTAR OBD virginization solution offers a much more convenient and secure alternative.

No soldering required

Supports OBD and Bench modes

Non-destructive operation

Reduced risk of module damage

Using KeyMaster G3 or DC706, technicians can first read the original vehicle data, then perform TCM virginization and personalization (data transfer).

2020 Honda ADV750 Clutch Initialization Using OBDSTAR MotoMaster

In this guide, we will walk you through the clutch initialization (learning) procedure for a 2020 Honda ADV750 using the OBDSTAR MotoMaster diagnostic tool. This function is essential after clutch-related repairs or when transmission performance needs recalibration.


Follow the steps below carefully to complete the process successfully.


Required Tools:

OBDSTAR MotoMaster

Connection Setup

1. Locate the motorcycle diagnostic port.

2. Use the M041 dedicated cable to connect the MotoMaster to the motorcycle.

3. Turn the ignition ON (engine OFF).

4. On the MotoMaster, navigate to: [MOTO Diag] → [HONDA]

Clutch Initialization Procedure

1. Select [Auto Scan] and confirm that the M041 diagnostic connector is in use.

2. Enter [Special Functions].

3. Choose [Clutch Initialize Learning].

4. Carefully read the on-screen notes and confirm:

The engine is OFF

The transmission is in Neutral

5. The tool will display the message: “Is the shift indicator ‘L’ turned on?” Tap [Cancel].

1. Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition OFF, then turn it ON again.

2. Start the engine.

3. Wait until both the “L” indicator and the dashboard symbol disappear.

4. Tap [OK] to continue.

Completion Steps

1. Once the clutch initialization completes successfully, tap [OK].

2. Follow the on-screen prompt to turn OFF the ignition within 10 seconds, then tap [OK] again.

3. If the tool displays: “The inspection is finished,” the clutch initialization procedure has been completed successfully.

Mercury Diesel Engine Maintenance Reset Using OBDSTAR MarineMaster

This article demonstrates how to perform a maintenance reset on a Mercury Diesel engine using the OBDSTAR MarineMaster. The procedure is straightforward and can be completed in just a few steps with proper preparation.


Note:

Before starting, make sure the MarineMaster device is properly connected to the boat using the dedicated diagnostic cable.


Step-by-Step Maintenance Reset Procedure

Step 1: Enter Marine Diagnosis

Power on the OBDSTAR MarineMaster and tap [Marine Diag].

Use the search box in the upper-right corner to quickly locate the corresponding engine model.


Follow the menu path below:

[MERCURY / DIESEL] → [MERCURY DIESEL V33.01] → [Diagnosis] → [Injection System Integration Module] → [(2018–) Diagnosis on CAN Node (JUNCTION BOX)] → [Outboard – Avator – Tiler – GEN21B_AAQ]

Step 2: Access Maintenance Function

Enter the [Special Function] menu

Scroll down and select [Maintenance]

Tap [OK] to continue

Step 3: Confirm Maintenance Conditions

Read the scheduled maintenance description carefully

Shift the throttle to the required position as instructed on the screen

Step 4: Check Maintenance Remaining Percentage

Select any engine to view its maintenance remaining percentage:

100% – 16%: Normal condition

15% or below: Oil and oil filter replacement required

0%: Maintenance overdue

Stop the engine immediately and perform maintenance


In this example, 16% is shown.

Tap [Reset] to perform the maintenance reset.


Step 5: Reset Completed

When the message “Reset Complete” appears, the maintenance reset has been completed.

If the boat has multiple engines, repeat the same steps for the other engine(s).

Guide: Writing VIN Code on a 2022 Aprilia RS660 Using OBDSTAR MOTOMASTER

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to write a new VIN code to the ECU of a 2022 Aprilia RS660 motorcycle using the OBDSTAR MOTOMASTER diagnostic tool.


Tools Required:

Step 1: Locate the Diagnostic Port

On the Aprilia RS660, the diagnostic port is located under the seat.

Use the ignition key to unlock and remove the seat from the rear section of the bike.

Step 2: Connect the Device

Connect the M041 cable and main cable to the diagnostic port.

Plug the other end into the MOTOMASTER scanner.

Turn the motorcycle key to the ON position.

Step 3: Select Vehicle Model in MOTOMASTER

On the MOTOMASTER tablet:

Go to [MOTO Diag]

Select [APRILIA]

Choose [APRILIA V33.10]

Tap [Diagnosis] → [By Model]

Select [APRILIA / R / RS / 660 E5 / 2020-]

Perform [Auto Scan] → [Scan ECU]

Step 4: Access ECU Information

Tap [ECU Information] to view the existing VIN and other vehicle data.

Step 5: Write the VIN Code

Select [Special Function] → [Agree]

Choose [Write VIN] → [OK]

Warning: This function overwrites the VIN. Proceed with caution.

Enter the 17-digit VIN code and press OK.

Step 6: Complete the Process

Turn off the dashboard and wait until communication with the ECU ends, then press OK.

Turn the key back ON and press OK to continue.

The system will confirm that the procedure has been completed.

Step 7: Verify the VIN Update

Go back to [ECU Information] to confirm that the VIN has been updated correctly.
